DESCRIPTION:COURSE DETAILS:\n\nThis leadership workshop is designed to enable participants to develop their self-awareness including an awareness of our perceptions\, assumptions and biases.   Based on the assumption that leadership is not a position but who you are\, participants will begin to explore what it means to lead in their specific context and their specific strengths and challenges in doing so. Participants will have an opportunity to explore emotional intelligence and its relationship to leadership effectiveness. \n\n\n\nThis workshop also covers the important factors in building teams including leadership communications skills needed in a team setting and continues to build on the personal leadership skills.  This interactive\, applied workshop uses a combination of group interaction\, practice sessions\, lecturettes\, and experiential activities.\nLEARNING OUTCOMES\nUpon successful completion of the workshop\, the participant will be able to:\n\n\n	Reflect on personal reasons to be a leader including how leadership is personally relevant and relate values to leadership effectiveness\n	Identify challenges facing leaders today and the rewards of leadership. \n	Describe some of the most important leadership competencies \n	Develop enhanced self-awareness and confidence \n	Describe the importance of and demonstrate the ability to engage in reflection. \n	Describe a model of emotional intelligence and its application to leadership \n	Explain the influence of assumptions and perception on leadership effectiveness \n	Develop understanding of recent research on positive psychology and the neuroscience of leadership\n\n\n\n	Describe team leadership and leadership skills \n	Identify how organizational structures impact leadership\n	Describe the difference between work groups and teams\n	Describe the value\, purpose and appropriate use of teams\n	Describe the necessary steps and processes in setting up a team \n	Develop an understanding of the stages of team development as described by B. Tuckman\n	Develop and apply a team charter including performance ground rules and accountabilities\n	Demonstrate effective skills for leading others including:\n	\n		Appropriate and effective listening skills\n		Assertive communication skills\n		Clarify expectations through delegation\n	\n	\n\n\nAUTOMOTIVE MANAGEMENT STATEMENT OF COMPLETION:\n\n This workshop is part of a series of 10 workshops offered by NCDA & BCIT. Successful completion of 8 of 10 workshops results in a Statement of Completion Award.
